I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again, holidays are so much more magical with Oakley. Even though she doesn’t understand the Easter Bunny, Andrew and I were both so excited to make her an Easter basket. Actually, the day before (because that’s how I do things) we were walking around the store picking out things for her Easter basket while Oakley slept in her car seat in the shopping cart, so we joked that it was perfect timing because she wouldn’t figure out we were the Easter Bunny. I tend to do things last minute, unless its planning out her picture with the dogs. If you’ve been following along, you’ve probably caught on to the fact that I take a picture of Oakley and the dogs for every major holiday and that usually includes putting some kind of hat or headband on the dogs. In this case, it was bunny ears which I found right after Valentine’s Day in the Target Dollar Spot! You can always rely on Target.
On our first Easter together, Andrew and I realized our families had the same tradition. The “Easter Bunny” aka our moms would get us a bathing suit every year, which means Oakley got a bathing suit in her first Easter basket. It was so fun showing Oakley her Easter basket when she woke up that morning. We used a tin bucket for her Easter basket and filled it with a bathing suit, toys, a book about baby farm animals, and a bunny stuffed animal.
The highlight of the day was facetiming our families, especially my grandpa who hasn’t met Oakley yet. You can tell by the look on both of their faces that it will be one special moment when they meet in June! By the way, the pictures of Oakley with the baby lamb are a close second, but this is my all time favorite picture of her. I grew up going over to my grandparents every Wednesday, so it’s really hard knowing that my grandpa hasn’t met her yet. He is truly the best guy you could ever meet. His smile tells it all. You can tell just by looking at him that they don’t get any better than him. We talk on the phone, but its hard for him to hear so we usually just laugh the whole time. The other day I said, “Well, I miss you!” and he thought I said cooler lol. I miss him so much and I’m counting down the days until him and Oakley finally meet!
Easter baskets and Easter Bunnies are fun and all, but I don’t want to forget about the real reason behind Easter as Oakley grows up. I still have a lot to learn, but I look forward to teaching Oakley and learning with her about Jesus in general but also how Jesus died on the cross for our sins and then rose from the tomb after three days.. This post is late, but it’s never too late to celebrate the real reason for the season… he is risen!
Oakley’s white romper is from todds-littles.com and the blue and white romper is from sweetducklingshop.com. They both have great prices and super cute clothes!
